We are God's Tabernacle... Say What??

This morning’s thought: Tabernacle. We, as members of Christ’s body, are the tabernacle of His Holy Spirit, just as surely as the tabernacle in the desert housed His presence for the Israelites. And, while I’d love the setting for my tabernacle to be a placid mountain lake surrounded by majestic beauty, the epitome of tranquility, fact is, we are in THIS world and placed among broken people. Artist's rendering of the Tabernacle in the wilderness from http://waysoflife.info/Literatur/E_Sukkot.html

I suppose the history of the tabernacle should prepare us for this juxtaposition. God chose to dwell among His people, not in the plenty of a fertile land during peaceful times but rather in the wilderness among a million people who bickered and complained. He’s used to dealing with dysfunction.

I suppose a true picture of tabernacle is God’s children, us, choosing to hide our faces in God’s chest until all the stuff around is put into perspective. In this way, we find His peace in the midst of the storm.

God, help me right now to focus on You in the midst of life’s storm. Help me choose forgiveness and grace by remembering the tremendous grace You showed by shedding Your blood on that cross for men who hated You… and for me who tends to take that blood for granted. I shove everything off the #1 position in my life and put You first. As You tabernacle in me in this crazy world, may I more and more react and act like Christ. May I walk in the authority and redemptive power Christ won for me with His resurrection.

In Jesus’ Holy name I pray,

    Amen
